brantly It's a departure from previous releases, & it took several spins to digest, but once it clicked, this is an amazing record. It's an extremely varied record, with aspects of feeback-laced gloom-pop, ruptured guitar echoes, and splintered folk-gaze. This record still has some of those pealing Slowdive-isms, but it has a whole lot more Flying Saucer Attack / Grouper / opiated Sonic Youth / Low-like-lullabies. A record deserving of repeat listens. Stellar!

Waveless is a band name that suggests stillness. It conjures images of water that’s placid or frozen. When you listen to their music, it’s the opposite. Their sound is radiating and flowing, with wave, after wave of dense, layered, and beautiful songwriting. It washes over your ears and immerses your heart. They’re from Minneapolis, a place in perpetual winter, so it makes sense that their songs speak with pensive, elegant, melancholy. Their lyrics are poetical musings, reflections of dreams, Dada artists, and fractured relationships. There’s a promising sadness to their sound that sees silver edges in the clouds. Their rhythm is powerful but nuanced, like catching a stormy ocean in a glass bottle. Seeing them perform feels like they are summoning magic. It sounds like a surrealist spell made in a blood pact between three friends. Waveless shows us how great drums, bass, and guitar can be. They envelop you in a reverberating cloak of warmth with sun-soaked tones that will give you solace in the snow.
